Where I will go and what I will do

As I sit here and think about where I want to go now that I have earn my MAET degree from MSU, I have so many thoughts going through my head.  In the last four years, I have learned more about technology then I ever thought was possible.  My eyes have been opened to world of educational technology and how to use it for educational purposes in a classroom.  At this time, I plan to continue to teach lower elementary for as long as that continues to be where my heart is.  I am however, very excited to make my classroom a "Tech Savvy" place to learn!

When I return to school in the fall 2011 I plan to start building my "Tech Savvy" classroom.  In order for this to all work, I have started writing grants to local places, as well as, researching grants online.  My first hope is that someone out there will provide my class with an iPad.  If and when I am able to purchase an iPad I will be using it as a teaching tool in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, as enrichment and for reteaching.  This year in my class, I also have 3 hearing impaired students, 1 diabetic, and 1 student with a trach that could all benefit from this piece of technology.  The hearing impaired students could use the iPad as a sound board so that they are able to speak to their classmates and the nurse for the other two students can use the iPad to record medical data and calculate the correct amount of insulin that will be required.

The next step I plan to create is a class website using Weebly for parents and students.  I would like to have this website up and running by the end of August 2011 so that when I send out my welcome letter I can include a web address to my site.  The site will contain all the essentials for my classroom such as: basic classroom information, supply list, calendar, newsletter, and curriculum updates.  As the year goes on, I will be adding a page for each subject area.  Under these areas parents will be able to find links to websites that we have used in class or ones that are beneficial for their first grader.

Listed above are my short term goals, the ones I want to get going on right now.  Further down the line I would l plan on taking a more active role on the Elementary Advisory Committee, where I will help other elementary teachers with ways to use technology in their classroom and present new technology tools to elementary teachers for workshops.  I also plan on continuing to take other higher level courses, I am not sure when I want to start or what area I would like to focus on, but I am a life long learner and I need to continue my education so that I can continue to educate my students to the best of my ability.  So until I decide to go back to school I plan to take workshops offered by our district, as well as, search out some addition professional development in the area of technology.  Technology changes so quickly that it will be important that I stay on top of my learning.
